ROLE
As the Truck & Coach Mechanic, you will be responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing the NPS fleet of highway trucks, trailers, and specialized heavy equipment. In addition to highway trucks, our fleet includes hydrovac units, vacuum trucks, septic equipment, water trucks, roll-off systems, pumps, blowers, hydraulic systems, PTOs, and other specialized mechanical equipment essential to our operations.
This is more than a traditional truck mechanic role. You will work closely with ownership, operations, supervisors, and field crews to ensure equipment remains safe, reliable, and ready to respond whenever our customers need us. The successful candidate enjoys solving complex mechanical problems, takes pride in quality workmanship, and understands the importance of preventative maintenance in supporting operational excellence.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on heavy trucks, trailers, hydrovac units, vacuum trucks, septic trucks, water trucks, roll-off equipment, and supporting fleet assets.
Diagnose and repair diesel engines, transmissions, drivetrains, suspension, steering, brake systems, electrical systems, emissions systems, and electronic controls.
Maintain and repair pumps, vacuum systems, blowers, hydraulic systems, PTOs, water systems, valves, hoses, plumbing, and associated mechanical components.
Troubleshoot hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, and electrical failures efficiently to minimize downtime.
Complete preventative maintenance services in accordance with manufacturer specifications and company maintenance schedules.
Conduct annual inspections, equipment safety inspections, and pre-service evaluations.
Respond to emergency equipment breakdowns in the field when operationally required.
Complete accurate repair documentation, preventative maintenance records, inspection reports, and parts usage records.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop while ensuring tools and equipment remain in good working condition.
Communicate repair priorities and equipment status with operations and supervisors to maximize fleet availability.
Assist with fabrication, welding, equipment modifications, and shop improvement projects as required.
REQUIREMENTS
The successful candidate will have a minimum of 3 years of experience repairing heavy trucks, commercial vehicles, construction equipment, industrial equipment, or related mechanical systems.
Candidates must demonstrate strong mechanical troubleshooting abilities involving diesel engines, hydraulic systems, air brake systems, electrical systems, preventative maintenance, and equipment diagnostics.
Experience working on hydrovac trucks, vacuum trucks, pumps, blowers, hydraulic equipment, septic systems, water hauling equipment, or other vocational equipment is considered a strong asset.
The role requires excellent organizational and problem-solving skills, the ability to manage multiple repair priorities, and the ability to communicate effectively with both field crews and leadership.
The successful candidate must be capable of working independently while supporting a fast-paced operational environment where equipment reliability is critical.
TRAINING & CERTIFICATION
The following certifications and qualifications are required for this role:
Valid 310T Truck & Coach Technician Licence (or equivalent heavy equipment experience will be considered)
Valid G Class Driver's Licence with clean Driver's Abstract
Ability to travel to operational and client sites as required
Ability to complete criminal background check and drug/alcohol testing requirements where required by client sites
The following experience, courses, and training certifications are considered an asset:
DZ or AZ Driver's Licence
Welding and fabrication experience
Hydraulic system diagnostics
PTO and vacuum system experience
CVIP / Annual Inspection Certification
First Aid / CPR
Working at Heights
WHMIS
TDG (Transportation of Dangerous Goods)
Experience using electronic diagnostic software
WAGES & BENEFITS
Starting at $45.00/h (based on experience, certifications, and qualifications)
